Summer Cocktail: Pomegranate Mint Paloma Fizz

There’s nothing like sitting pool-side, ocean-side, cruising on boat, or gathering with friends for a cookout with an ice cold drink in your hand. Although summer’s fun social events may make it difficult to stay on track with nutrition goals, prioritizing your health doesn’t have to come at the cost of enjoying tasty meals and refreshing alcoholic drinks.

What I’ll be sipping on all summer long: Pomegranate Mint Paloma Fizz

This recipe can easily be made into a mocktail too! Omit the tequila and you have a fizz that’s alcohol free.

Refreshing, light, and just the right balance of tart + sweet.

Here’s how to make it:

  • 2 oz tequila

  • 2 oz 100% pomegranate juice

  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice (about ½ lime)

  • Soda water to top

  • 4–5 mint leaves, plus more for garnish
    Ice

Power of Pomegranates

Pomegranates are packed with powerful nutrients and plant compounds that support overall health. These fruits are loaded with polyphenols, especially punicalagins and anthocyanins, which help fight inflammation and oxidative stress—two drivers of chronic disease and aging.

Pomegranate juice that is 100% pure (no added sugar) may help lower blood pressure, reduce LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and improve blood flow, all of which are important for cardiovascular health. The tart and sweet seeds found inside the whole fruit are a great source of fiber! They can help support gut motility and feeds beneficial gut bacteria—plus, the polyphenols may help increase microbiome diversity.

In a study, women were asked to drink pomegranate juice for several weeks to see if there was a correlation between pomegranate consumption and skin health. Researchers found that pomegranate juice acted as an internal sunscreen against the oxidative and inflammatory effects that prolonged sun exposure can bring This provides a deeper underlying correlation between what we consume in our diet and how it effects our skin and overall health!
